Caymus-Suisin Grand Durif, Suisun Valley, California - 750 Millilitre , $66.49
The super-rich Petite Sirah (also known as Durif) has been widely respected in California dating back to the 1800's. The variety contributed importantly to our state's evolution in creating great wines and was often the favored choice of many home winemakers. The term Petasarah grew to life, with the wine rich in substance - mouth-filling, opaquely dark, and retaining significant bitterness. With this important memory of yesteryear in mind, Gran Durif is an updated version - a round, eminently rich and fruit-driven table wine without the customary bitterness. The harvesting of our grapes takes place late in the growing season and is the center point of this wine's ripe style. The little-known but exceptional Suisan Valley is the grape source. Dry farmed young wines are highly responsible for Grand Durif, as well as Caymus fermentation techniques and barrel aging in French oak. The sum of these practices produces a newly fashioned Petasarah. Suisun (su-soon), only 30 minutes Southeast of neighboring Napa Valley, shares similar climatic conditions, yet has richer soils perfectly suited to this wine, a new expression of a variety that has long been overlooked and holds potential for great enjoyment.

McManis Family Vineyards Petite Sirah California Red Wine, 750 ml - 750 Millilitre , $13.99
The McManis family has been farming in the northern interior region of California since 1938. Fourth generation farmer Ron McManis, and his wife Jamie, founded McManis Family Vineyards in 1990. From the beginning, their mission was simple: every bottle of McManis Family Vineyards should consist of "quality wine at an honest price". They now farm over 3,600 acres of premium wine grapes from premier growing areas across the state. In 1998, the company designed and built a state-of-the-art winery to produce a range of red and white varietals sourced from ten estate vineyards. All 10 delicious varietals are certified sustainable under Lodi Rules standards and the winery itself is certified under California Sustainable Winegrowing Alliance. McManis is also the keeper of the third smallest American Viticultural Area (AVA) in California. Nestled between the cool confluence of the Stanislaus and San Joaquin rivers, south of Lodi, the River Junction Appellation comprises 1300 acres. The land near the river basin is consistently 2-5 degrees cooler than the surrounding farmlands, combined with the sandy loam soils unique to the area, is ideally suited to growing premium quality grapes. This geographical advantage also provides a more significant diurnal temperature swing - warm days, cooler nights than other vineyards. McManis Family Vineyards grows Chardonnay, Pinot Grigio, Pinot Noir, Viognier and Muscat Canelli in the AVA. Flavors of mocha, caramel, and dark berries. Certified sustainable under Lodi Rules. Pairs well with pasta, soft cheeses, and chocolate. 92 points, Tasting Panel (2017 vintage). Aged 7 months on French and American oak.
