Family Central: Cheat on Meat

Sometimes it’s ok to be a little sneaky. I’m sure most parents have been a little creative, sneaking in some extra vegetables here and there. But, have you thought about doing a switch-a-roo with meat? I know it’s a bold move, but hey, they just might like it! So let’s cheat on meat at the next family meal.

We have several meat alternatives at FRESH. You can find our frozen selections on aisle 19 and refrigerated items on aisle 10.  One of my best friends, Brad Downey, introduced me to one of the best meat substitutes. Even before FRESH opened its doors, Brad was singing the praises of Gardein. Here is the perfect recipe for you to slip into your weeknight meal rotation!

Sneaky Sliders

Ingredients:
1 pkg brioche rolls (from FRESH Bakery)
1 Tbs olive oil
1 pkg Gardein BBQ Pulled Shreds
1/4 cup Stanley’s BBQ Sauce
1 cup classic coleslaw (from Chef Prepared)

Directions:
Slice rolls in half and set aside.

Heat a nonstick pan over medium-high heat. Add oil and barbecue pulled shreds with sauce to pan and cook over medium heat for 5 to 7 minutes until hot and sticky.

Place a layer of hot barbecue shreds on the bottom piece of the brioche roll. Then, add a small layer of coleslaw and top with remainder of the roll. Serve while still warm.
