FRESH and Festive: Can you take the heat?

If you have been in Texas any amount of time, you have acquired the resilience to take a little bit of heat. If fact Some Like It Hot! Some dare devils challenge their taste buds to drown in the capsicum of infamous chili peppers.

It’s for these special Freshies that we are once again uniting for our Some Like It Hot festival starting Friday, August 24th to Sunday, September 2nd.Our Some Like It Hot event celebrates all that is hot and spicy in the world of food.

We will be roasting the famous Hatch chili peppers from our New Mexico neighbors as well as countless other chili peppers of all hot to trot levels right in front of the store! Come watch them turn and burn in our custom-made roaster. Then we quickly package up these fresh, fire roasted delights for you take home. All the while saving us a few to add into some of our special dishes like chili cobblers, southwest tortillas, chili mac and cheese and hatch pepper mashed potatoes. Get the idea? Hold on to your salsa, we have more!

Sizzling Sandwich Showdown: 

We are going to turn up the heat the right off the bat (Saturday, Aug. 25th and Sunday, Aug. 26th) with a celebrity battle to create  the most mouth watering, can’t look away, scrumptious to the very last bite sandwich. You can cast your vote online or come on in to vote to cheer on your sandwich master.

We will take this out of the world creation and add it to our Sandwich Bar menu for 90 days with $1.00 from every sandwich going to the winner’s charity of choice.

Hot Chef Alert:

A Freshie favorite Chef Carlos Montez, of Tyler’s Villa Montez takes over our Taste Kitchen on Saturday, Sept. 1st.  Chef Carlos Montez heads up the kitchen at one of Tyler’s most acclaimed, and most delicious, restaurants, Villa Montez, where his signature dishes include his Latin-inspired spring rolls, tequila-lime chicken, tenderloin with roasted poblanos and guajillochile sauce, and his creative takes on ceviche. What will he be serving up this weekend? Only one way to find out. Come out and see!

Sizzling Sounds:

Most Freshies know how lively it gets on the Back Patio Friday & Saturday nights. We will be adding to the fire with some sizzling sounds by Latin Jazz band Mosaic from Dallas. With 10 years of experience, these well seasoned musicians will light up the night.

Then we have  the Cuban Jazz Project, an all-star ensemble of extremely high-end Cuban and American jazz players brought together by Cuban-American musician and entrepreneur Tony Betancourt. They take a jam-band approach and burn a giant hole through jazz standards, originals and traditional Cuban motifs.

And Tyler’s own Latin jazz band Senor Gringos strike again with their stylish grooves from celebrated East Texas musicians that play some originals, plus covers of songs by artists like Marc Antoine, Oscar Lopez, and Ottmar Liebert.
