When I was a kid, the only adults who celebrated Halloween were a few “fun” moms, who put on a witch’s hat while handing out the miniature Snickers to all the neighborhood kids.
But somewhere along the way, Halloween became a holiday as much for grown-ups as for kids. It’s now widely considered the third-biggest party night of the year, behind New Year’s Eve and Super Bowl Sunday.
So if you’re planning on tossing a Halloween party this weekend – or if you just want an appropriate cocktail to sip on in between answering the door to trick-or-treaters – here are a couple of themed drinks with seasonal flavors:
Wicked Sangria Punch
4 oz FRESH sangria mix
1 shot (2 oz) light rum
1 oz sparkling water
White grapes and orange wedges, for garnish
Pour sangria mix and rum over crushed ice and stir lightly. Top with a splash of sparkling water (about one ounce) and stir again. Garnish with a couple of white seedless grapes and orange wedges.
Dirty Devil Vodka Martini
1 shot (2 oz) vodka
1 oz FRESH jalapeño margarita mix
1 oz juice from jar of jalapeño-stuffed olives (we used the Mezzeta brand)
Jalapeño-stuffed olives, for garnish
Combine vodka, margarita mix and olive juice in a cocktail shaker with ice cubes. Shake well. Strain into a martini glass. Garnish with two jalapeno-stuffed olives on a toothpick.
