FRESH and Festive: Stars at FRESH This Weekend

Since opening, FRESH has brought East Texas a lot of great culinary and musical talent, but this weekend I’m especially excited about the one-two punch we’re presenting. Two Texas superstars – chef Kent Rathbun and musician Guy Forsyth – will be at FRESH tomorrow, and it’s all free for you!

First, Kent Rathbun will return to the FRESH Taste Kitchen from 12-5pm tomorrow, Saturday Oct. 1st. Kent drew big crowds for his previous appearances at FRESH this summer, and no surprise why: It’s not so often we get to see an Iron Chef winner rolling up his chef jacket sleeves in our kitchen.

Kent, who also owns a string of popular Dallas restaurants including Abacus and Jasper’s, will be demo-ing all kinds of meat and poultry dishes using his line of Kent Rathbun Elements sauces and rubs. His barbecue sauces, grilling rubs, marinades and salad dressings are an easy way to make your own cooking taste like restaurant fare; I especially love the Thai red curry sauce, the flavors used in the lobster shooters he made famous at Abacus.

After Kent’s demos, stick around: At 6 p.m., we present a free concert by Austin’s Guy Forsyth. You may know the Texas singer/songwriter from his time with the Asylum Street Spankers, the acoustic Americana band he founded in the ‘90s (and left a few years later.)

Now, he’s known for an Americana/blues/folk/rock mix, and for being able to coax great music out of just about any instrument (electric guitar, ukulele, slide guitar, harmonica, even a singing saw. Guy puts on a great live show; come hear for yourself. The music will continue on our Back Patio until 9 p.m.
