He’s been on Iron Chef (and yes, he beat Bobby Flay.) He’s the chef mastermind behind such acclaimed Dallas restaurants as Abacus and Jasper’s.
And he’ll be in Tyler this week. Dallas superchef Kent Rathbun is coming to FRESH tomorrow and Friday. He’ll give cooking demos and sample some of his cooking sauces and marinades, now on the grocery shelves at FRESH.
If you’ve eaten at one of Rathbun’s restaurants, you know he’s famous for complex, deeply flavored, and creative dishes. Like his signature lobster shooters, a little puff of lobster in a delicious coconut-red curry broth, the dish that put his first restaurant Abacus on the foodie map more than a decade ago. Or the smoked babyback ribs at Jasper’s, which were once named by Bon Appetit as among the best in America.
His Kent Rathbun Elements line manages to capture some of those flavors, so you can recreate them at home, even if you don’t have your own celebrity chef on hand.
There are barbecue sauces, with flavors including ancho chile and Texas peach. Marinades, including a spicy Thai. And, yes, the famous red curry coconut sauce, just like you remember it from those lobster shooters – perfect for dipping sauces, to pair with dumplings or noodles, or as a glaze on seafood or poultry.
Rathbun will be in the FRESH Taste Kitchen cooking, talking and sampling products from his Elements line: Thursday, May 26: 10 a.m-2 p.m. and 4 p.m.-8 p.m. and Friday, May 27: 10 a.m-2 p.m. and 4 p.m.-8 p.m.
Come pick up some ideas for how you can create chef-worthy dishes in your own kitchen.
